Mariam Wallentin is an artist with a big heart, as thoughtful as she is musically fearless. An Alice Coltrane for our time. Spirituality meets music that makes us feel and think. With musical roots in both improvisation, pop and soul, Wallentin’s career has crossed a multitude of diverse territories. She is one half of Wildbirds & Peacedrums and one of the creative forces behind the jazz collective Fire! Orchestra. She has worked with bands such as Deerhoof and Konono No. 1, as well as choirs, string ensembles and symphony orchestras, sung for Björk, and appeared in an experimental opera by noise musician Ben Frost. She has collaborated musically with Damien Rice and Leslie Feist, won a Manifest Award and a Jazzkatten Award, and has been nominated for a Swedish Grammy several times.

With her uncompromising approach to music, Wallentin launched her project Mariam The Believer in 2012, allowing her to channel her artistic expression into a more pop-oriented project. Mariam The Believer has released two critically acclaimed full-length albums on her own label, Repeat Until Death. She is also working on an ongoing series of EPs called Instant Creativity. Her third full-length album, Breathing Techniques, has now been recorded and is soon ready for release. New songs about longing, exploring life’s fragile moments and the ever-evolving nature of existence. Performed with a contemporary chamber-music ensemble, pop music meets improvisation in a poetic flow. Mariam is an artist who dares to take risks – and who moves you.
